IndieView with Adrian Emery, author of TaoTuning

My target reader is anyone who is concerned about humanity’s evolutionary journey and the predicament we currently find ourselves in, where the state of the world geopolitically does not accurately reflect our emotional and psychological maturity. Emotional and spiritual intelligence certainly do not rule global affairs. We need to do better at managing global resources and international peace.

The Back Flap

In this intriguing sequel to Personal Sovereignty, Adrian Emery, author, philosopher & mentor, takes this all-important discussion a step further. In book I of this trilogy, we learnt how to become masters of our own destiny by making those sovereign decisions that are in our best interest. Decisions determine destiny.

Yet, once we have decided upon our personal life journey, we need to know how to get to our chosen destination. This requires that ability to live one’s life successfully & to become a master of manifestation in the here & now.

We need to learn how to flow with the all-powerful currents of the universe – the Infinite Tao. We all want to live in the flow. Yet it seems so elusive!

About the book

What is the book about?

TaoTuning is a manual on learning how to live one’s life in the zone of flow, where life flows effortlessly and we achieve the fulfillment of our personal goals and objectives. It is learning how to harmonise one’s inner intention with the more powerful cosmic currents of energy that animate and motivate the universe.

It is about being on track in your life to fulfill and live your purpose. It assists the reader to find the why in their lives which brings meaning and a sense of joy. It is about being congruent and authentic.

When did you start writing the book?

I started writing the book about 8 years ago but had to leave it while I accomplished other projects in my life and returned to it in 2023.

How long did it take you to write it?

It probably took me about 12 months in total, but it took me 50 years to learn and master the process of TaoTuning.

Where did you get the idea from?

I spent many years doing personal spiritual counselling and corporate culture consultancy and developed a modality that I called TaoTuning, as it is that ability to fine tune one’s life like a TV set to receive a clear channel with no extraneous noise or static. Once clear, we can live our lives more successfully, harmoniously and joyously.

Were there any parts of the book where you struggled?

The hardest part is always the final editing, proofing, printing etc. and coming up with a finished product that is marketable.

What came easily?

I find the actual writing quite easy once I get myself out of the way and just let it flow.

We all know how important it is for writers to read. Are there any particular authors that have influenced how you write and, if so, how have they influenced you?

Too many authors to mention. I am an avid reader, reading up to 5 books at any one time. I have a very extensive library and have studied philosophy, metaphysics, new age, new thought, positive psychology etc. I read a lot of channelled work to know where humanity is going.

However, when I write I try to be as original and authentic as possible, so I am not paraphrasing someone else’s work. I think it is essential to contribute to the debate via original thinking.

Do you have a target reader?

My target reader is anyone who is concerned about humanity’s evolutionary journey and the predicament we currently find ourselves in, where the state of the world geopolitically does not accurately reflect our emotional and psychological maturity. Emotional and spiritual intelligence certainly do not rule global affairs.  We need to do better at managing global resources and international peace. There is a massive divorce between the rhetoric and the reality. Most politics is shameful, and I think the average person is becoming quite jaded and distrustful of the ruling elite.

About Writing

Do you have a writing process? If so can you please describe it?

I like to write early and for several hours in the morning. If there is no flow, I do not push it or go beyond a healthy time limit, or the quality deteriorates. One knows when it is working or not.

I usually meditate or get clear before I start so I am relaxed and in the zone. Once a session ends that is it for the day.

Do you outline? If so, do you do so extensively or just chapter headings and a couple of sentences?

I always do a detailed outline including chapter headings and a basic flow chart of what I want to say and how to explain it. It must be coherent, logical and make sense to the reader especially as I am writing about obtuse concepts. The reader must be able to follow the narrative, or you lose their attention.

Do you edit as you go or wait until you’ve finished?

Both and repeatedly. Once finished I will set the work aside for a few months and then come back for a detailed review, rereading several times for clarity. I rarely change any sentences but check for typos, grammar, spelling etc.I find my original sentences are the best.

Did you hire a professional editor?

Yes I did hire a professional editor.

Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what gets the fingers tapping?

No.

About Publishing

Did you submit your work to Agents?

No, I did not.

What made you decide to go Indie, whether self-publishing or with an indie publisher?

I write outside mainstream thinking so did not really seek a publisher. It is a difficult road to get into the limited publishing industry.

Was it a particular event or a gradual process?

It is an ever-evolving process that has been with me for decades. I am an author and am always writing something. I have done a lot of teaching, public speaking and so on, so I am always creating content.

Did you get your book cover professionally done or did you do it yourself?

I use professional artists.

Do you have a marketing plan for the book or are you just winging it?

I do have a plan but one must be flexible as it is not set in stone or easy.

Any advice that you would like to give to other newbies considering becoming Indie authors?

Go for it – express yourself and make your contribution to the world. I love writing and think if you are an author, you just must write. It is not about the sales but the service.

About You

Where did you grow up?.

Sydney, Australia

Where do you live now?

In a spectacular 10-acre garden that I created over the last 50 years in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

What would you like readers to know about you?

I am a philosopher and like to take the big picture perspective. I believe humanity is evolving and about to go through a massive quantum leap in understanding and wisdom.

What are you working on now?

Distilling my life’s work into easy-to-understand and applicable wisdom that will facilitate this coming global transition. I am focused on publishing TaoTuning and getting my work out into the world.
