About the book

What is the book about?

Dr. Riza Lamrona is on the run from a notorious space pilot. She knows his secrets and he wants her dead. Darick Remaul was a Star Patrol detective who’s trained in trouble and sees it in Riza. He also sees beneath the baggy clothes and glasses to the beautiful woman underneath. Will he be able to get beneath her defenses before the pirate accomplishes his deadly task?

When did you start writing the book?

I started the book in December 2011

How long did it take you to write it?

It was published on 5/27/2012

Where did you get the idea from?

I get ideas from everywhere. Mostly just out of my head, but I think some of them come from old movies. Westerns and the B films from the 50’s.

Were there any parts of the book where you struggled?

I struggle with the middle of every book. The sagging middle is the bane of my existence.

What came easily?

The first part of the book where I’m introducing the characters ann the situations are the easiest. Followed by the end. I always know the beginning and the end of a book before I ever start it.

Are your characters entirely fictitious or have you borrowed from real world people you know?

The characters in my books are entirely fictional in the scifi series. The westerns feature characters from my own history, my father and uncles were cowboys. My mother was a pen pal bride, not really a mail order bride but similar.

We all know how important it is for writers to read. Are there any particular authors that have influenced how you write and, if so, how have they influenced you?

I think I’ve been influenced most by Johanna Lindsey. She wrote all over the romance genre. She wrote western romance, regencies, medievals, and futuristics. Whatever she wrote, she made her own and you believed, for a short while, that you were there. I hope I convey that to my readers.

Do you have a target reader?

Romance readers, which are generally women over 18 are my target audience

About Writing

Do you have a writing process? If so can you please describe it?

I wouldn’t say that I have a process. I’m what is called a pantser. I just sit down and start writing, rather than plotting out my book. I know who my characters are and the general concept of the book, but that is all when I start to write.

Do you outline? If so, do you do so extensively or just Chapter headings and a couple of sentences?

I don’t outline

Do you edit as you go or wait until you’ve finished?

Both. I edit as I write and then at the end I go through it and edit the whole book.

Did you hire a professional editor?

No. I have an amazing group of critique partners one of whom is a line editor.

Do you listen to music while you write? If yes, what gets the fingers tapping?

No, I don’t listen to anything while I write. Maybe I should start. J

About Publishing

Did you submit your work to Agents?

I used to submit my work to agents and editors.

What made you decide to go Indie? Was it a particular event or a gradual process?

One of my critique partners suggested it when I finished my second book.

Did you get your book cover professionally done or did it you do it yourself?

My covers are professionally done.

Do you have a marketing plan for the book or are you just winging it?

I’m just winging it.

Any advice that you would like to give to other newbies considering becoming Indie authors?

Go for it. You’ll do better than you ever could with a traditional publisher and you can put up books anytime. So if you get one finished. You can have it edited and ready for publication in a month, easy. You don’t have to wait a year or more to see your baby out there.

About You

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in the mountains west of Denver, Colorado

Where do you live now?

I live 20 miles north of Denver.

What would you like readers to know about you?

I love to write. I’m a member of RWA and Colorado Romance Writers. I’ve been writing toward publication for more than ten years and writing in general for more than forty years. I wrote my first story when I was ten. So now you have a general idea how old I am.

What are you working on now?

Currently I’m working on the third in the Tame series, called Tame A Wild Bride.
